What is the GED® test?

The GED® test covers five key areas of education — writing, science, math, social studies and literature. The test includes multiple choice, gridding, graphing and essay question formats and takes about 10.5 hours to complete. You may take the entire GED® test all at once, or take just one or more topics at a time — you are not required to take the test all at once.

Results
Once you're ready, the GED® test is offered as a group, by appointment only. Results are mailed about six to eight weeks after you take the test. In order to receive a high school equivalency degree, a minimum score of 410 on each subtest and a composite score of 2,250 are required. If you do not pass certain sections of the test, you may take them again for a small fee.

Cost
The cost to take the GED® test is $70. Individual sections may be taken, or retaken, for $14.
